yard
Another good color combo. I just loved the shape of the clothes line post. It is probably going to sound strange, but I have to admit, the reason I took the picture is because of the sense of reverence this scene inspired me. It just felt like I was in a church. I know it’s… Continue reading yard
bright orange
How lucky for me that this mass of orange ribbon was sitting in a bright blue box. I love naturally-occuring complementary color combinations.

excel art 2864
Another beautiful Excel spreadsheet by dad.
out of gas
We had a lovely Chinese dinner one night, and Nic joined mom and I towards the end. We were walking home and he was riding beside us when he ran out of gas, and walked his bike the rest of the way home. Pointe-Noire by night.
wood shop
I was back in the wood shop looking for a tape measure when I saw one of the spring horses waiting to be fixed, or waiting to replace a tired playground cousin. Oscar is our school’s full-time carpenter. I will have to take a picture of him at work. He does everything for us, and… Continue reading wood shop
angry Tommy
He was licking his right leg until it bled, and we tried to curb his grooming instinct with a cloth muzzle and a sock. To no avail. Oh well. It will heal eventually. Oh, and yes. That is my elusive brother. He works so hard it’s rare to see photographic evidence of him.
Carina taxi
This is not just *any* Carina taxi. This is Franck’s Carina taxi. The Carina nickname is sort of boring. It’s just the model of Toyota, a model that was manufactured only for the European market. More taxi models soon.
organic vegetables
You can’t get more organic than vegetables grown in a place where it’s simply too expensive to invest in herbicides and pesticides. This flat box was on the ground when I got home after English club today, a delivery from mom’s vegetable supplier for 8 years, Boungou.
The main street in Pointe-Noire, right after torrential rains that lasted at least 3 hours. I run an English conversation club in the invisible building to my immediate right. I will have to take a picture of it later.
manga blend
These are my two favorite photos for the content. I spent a whole recess reading the manga these boys wrote and laughing with them. Honestly…all I can say is that I can’t wait for Monday so I can hunt down the Manga and read some more of it.
kindergarten art
Mom is the BEST Kindergarten principal ever. The kids do such amazing art projects, and they have such great activities. They cook dishes, bake bread, plant flowers. And they are so adorable…
fuzzy flower
Actually there is a little more to this story than the caption. I dabbled at gardening last year when I lived in California, and my pride and joy was this graceful plant with slender leaves and bright purple flowers. I got very attached to it, because it was one of the only plants I managed… Continue reading fuzzy flower

the colorful school
The school is probably one of my favorite things to take pictures of. I know it’s odd, but I prefer walking around and taking pictures when there are no kids, because I can wander and find the pretty angles, wait for the light to hit things right, and there is so much color I can… Continue reading the colorful school
delicate plants
I can never get over how BLACK the earth is here. No need to buy potting soil! That small plant in the middle came from my garden in Pasadena. Mom likes to collect little seedlings and plants from her trips and plant them at home as a living souvenir. It’s a great habit. All the… Continue reading delicate plants
erring sheep
I am very disappointed with this picture, I didn’t have time to set up the shot calmly, there were kids, and trucks and taxis, and I somehow managed to take a picture that made the street look empty when it wasn’t but it’s not graceful or well-framed. Still, the sheep are cute and they are… Continue reading erring sheep
